Professor of Electrical Engineering at National Tsing Hua University, working on intelligent CMOS image sensors, processing-in-sensor architectures, and energy-efficient data converters for sensing systems.

Profile

Academic and professional background

Chih-Cheng Hsieh received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Electronics Engineering from National Chiao Tung University in 1990, 1991, and 1997, respectively. From 1999 to 2007, he was with PixArt Imaging Inc., where he served as Senior Manager of the Mixed-Mode IC Department and contributed to CMOS image-sensor products for optical-mouse and Wii Remote applications. He joined National Tsing Hua University in 2007 and founded the Signal Sensing and Application Lab. (SiSAL).

Research interests

His research covers CMOS image sensors, intelligent vision sensors, processing-in-sensor and computational CMOS image-sensor architectures, energy-efficient high-resolution and high-speed ADCs, ultra-low-voltage mixed-signal circuits, SAR-assisted and time-domain-assisted ADCs, noise-shaping and time-interleaved ADCs, pipelined ADCs, VTC/TDC techniques, and specialized sensor-interface circuits.

Major technical contributions

Intelligent CMOS image sensors: ultra-low-voltage and high-dynamic-range CMOS imagers, digital-pixel sensors, processing-in-sensor architectures, and smart vision sensors for motion, saliency, feature extraction, and lightweight classification.

Energy-efficient data converters: ultra-low-voltage SAR ADCs, SAR plus time-domain hybrid ADCs, opamp-less time-domain integrators, V-T-V/dVTV converters, and high-order noise-shaping SAR ADCs.
