Design, Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Engineering
The purpose of the course is to stimulate student teams to deliver solutions on unmet needs
and increase their collective understanding of the environment of new ventures. Students
experience the full cycle of product development starting from needs finding and screening,
concept screening, market analysis, business model, translating user needs into design inputs,
prototyping, development strategy and planning, operating plan and financial model, to business
The first term of this course is focus on needs assessment, solution selection and product
prototyping. Student teams will demonstrate their product prototypes on demo day (Fall term).
The main focus on the second term is on product validation, operating plan and
commercialization strategy. Student teams are required to launch their product on crowdfunding
campaigns and/or participated in business plan competitions by the end of this course.
