Prof. Shiuh Chao worked for Burroughs Corp. Optical Memory Group and Northrope Corp. Ring Laser Gyro Group from 1981-1984 before he joint the faculty of E.E. National Tsing Hua University. He is specialized in optical storage media for write once and magneto-optical recording, thin film materials for low loss laser mirror and quasi-phase-match periodically poled devices for blue light generation. He currently is also involved in development of passive devices for fiber communication. He received the Technical Contribution Award from the Chinese Society of Optical Engineering 1992 and the Best Achievement Award from ERSO ITRI 1992 for his contribution in 3 1/2” MO disk development. He holds 6 US patents and 2 Chinese patents.
