Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS)

A reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) is a meta-surface equipped with a large number of passive and programmable elements to adjust an incoming electromagnetic field. With RIS, a harsh propagation environment can be changed to a favorable condition so as to improve the link quality . To optimize the link quality, the active beamforming at the transmitter and the phase shifts at the RIS need to be jointly designed. In this project, we investigate the problem of joint active beamforming and passive beamforming design for RIS assisted communications.
