COP 2334 October Lecture Notes

Thurs 10/2

(Lab Day Today.) Programming Project 2 is due October 21. You have three choices:

1. Exercise 4.8.2, #1, 2, 3. (Payroll calculation)
2. Exercise 4.8.5, #1, 3 (Go-Moku game. When checking for a winner, you can just check the rows and columns. The diagonals are optional because they are much harder to check.
3. Exercose 4.8.4, #1,2,3 (Robot Wars). Use the updated specifications listed here.

Tues 10/7 (Chapter 5)

Describe the Object Model, explaining Abstraction, Encapsulation, Modularity, Hierarchy, Typing.
Discovering the classes in a problem description (example: Video Store problem).
Example: Design classes for the Payroll calculation program listed in Exercise 4.8.2.
Design a Date class that can be used with the Payroll program. This class stores and displays dates in a variety of formats, using static class members.
Today is the LAST day to turn in Project 1.

The Doctors Office Scheduling Program - Discussion of the analysis and design.
Announcing Project 3, due Thursday, October 30: Exercise 5.7.1, #2 (Saving Schedules to a File).

Thurs 10/23

Project #2 is due today, with documentation added (each member function must be followed by one or two lines of comments in the class definitions.

Using the code shown in Chapter 5 for the Doctors Office Scheduling program, implement the following member functions:

Appointment::IsScheduled: What criteria will you use to determine if an appointment has been scheduled?
Patient::ChooseDoctor: Display a list of doctor names, let user input the doctor number, and repeat the loop if the number is too large.
Doctor::AddToSchedule: Given an Appointment object, determine if the appointment time is already taken, and if it is not, add the appointment to the doctor's daily schedule.
Scheduler::ScheduleOneAppointment: Input a patient's name, let him/her choose a doctor. Using the doctor's ID number, let the Patient choose a time slot. Create an appointment object, and add the appointment to the selected doctor's schedule.
