Description: This is the course to get you started programming in C++, and to learn about designing object-oriented programs. You must already have a working knowledge of C, preferably equivalent to the Intermediate C programming course taught at Miami-Dade. We will assume you already know about pointers, loops, strings, structures, operator precedence, and so on. In addition to learning C++, you will learn the basics of writing Windows 95 applications in C++ using the Microsoft Foundation Classes.

Software: Microsoft Visual C++ 5.0. May be purchased at the academic discout price. Available either at the bookstore or through Computer Discount Warehouse.

Textbook: Irvine, Kip: C++ and Object-Oriented Programming, available in the bookstore.

Materials needed: Five 3.5" high-density diskettes, four 3-hole duotang folders.

Grading: Final exam = 25%, Programming projects = 75%.

General Topics: Classes, stream I/O, object-oriented design, polymorphism, inheritance, virtual functions, exception handling templates, container classes, Microsoft Foundation Classes for Windows 95 programming.
